Proposed amendments to Schedule
9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
the current amendment to the above act
would be only relevant to Scotland

Under this amendment it is intended that Ferrets will be added to the list of Invasive Species in Schedual 9 and therefor it will be an offence for any persons to release or allow them to escape from captivity. Depending on a courts interpretation of this act it could be construed that releasing a ferret in the act of pest control would be deemed as release.
I have spoken to the Scottish executive and there is no
deliberate intention to prevent the act of ferreting however it is important
that all our members and supporters register that there should be a clause that's
states
"Unless in the pursuit of lawful pest control"
