- Anne Robinson JP, MCIPR
Born 1948 – living in Worcestershire
Although Anne kept pet ferrets for many years it was not until 1998
that she first rescued four animals – three jills and a hob –
following the sudden death of a local ferreter. Shortly afterwards
she became a member of the National Ferret Welfare Society and one
of their Regional Co-ordinators.
Anne, who is a Justice of the Peace and a member of the Chartered
Institute of Public Relations, retired from her career early in 2003
and established Droitwich Ferret Welfare the following day – 1st
March.
In less than a year the Welfare became the first animal rescue
organisation in the UK specialising in ferrets to obtain the status
of a registered charity. In 2004 the Welfare was recognised by the
National Ferret Welfare Society who for the first time awarded a
shield for special services to ferret welfare.
Droitwich Ferret Welfare, now a member of the British Trust for
Conservation Volunteers, has grown considerably and early in 2007
Anne took in the 500th ferret. The Welfare re-homes ferrets to both
pet and working homes.
Anne is also:
A member of the Companion Animal Welfare Council which conducts
independent studies into the welfare, care and treatment of
companion animals and their role within society
Co founder and trustee of FERT – the Ferret Education and Research
Trust
Co founder of Chip4Charity encouraging microchipping pet and working
animals
Authoress of the booklet “A Fesnying of Ferrets – A Guide to Ferret
Husbandry”.
